Field Standards for the VCA Versatility Tests
ELIGIBILITY OF DOGS
- Any AKC registered Vizsla who has reached the age of six (6) months on the first advertised day of the Tests may be entered in the field and/or obedience tests. Vizslas must be 12 months to be entered in the conformation test. (Litter numbers may be used for participation, however, NO certificates will be issued until the Vizsla is registered by the AKC and the AKC number is sent to the Versatility Chairman.)
- No cryptorchid or monorchid Vizslas shall be eligible to enter any of the tests. Altered dogs are considered eligible.
- Bitches in season may not participate.
FIELD TEST REQUIREMENTS:
The test shall consist of a short backcourse of at least ten (10) minutes and not more that fifteen (15) minutes and a bird field (as set forth by AKC Field Trial Rules) of at lease five (5) minutes and not more than eight (8) minutes n which at least two (2) game birds or pigeons have been planted.To pass this Test a Vizsla must exhibit a natural desire to hunt, must locate and point a game bird or pigeon and must retrieve the same at least 3/4 of the distance from the fall of the bird to the origin of flush in an acceptable Derby manner. The Vizsla must show no signs of being gun shy and must show reasonable response to the handler's commands.
In the interest of safety, once the Vizsla has established point, the handler may, if he so desires, hold his dog by the collar and have the gunner flush and shoot the bird.All gunning is to be done by the official gunner, safety to people being of the utmost importance. If no birds are killed over the Vizsla taking the Test, the judge may, at his/her discretion, have a dead game bird or pigeon thrown out for a retrieve.
Vizslas taking this Test must score at least fify percent (50%) in each category and have an overall score of at least eighty (80) points in the following categories:| 1. APPLICATION AND DESIRE | 30 POINTS |

Obedience Scoring for the VCA Versatility Tests
HEEL ON LEAD - 20 Points
Deductions for additional commands, forging, lagging, poor sits/stands, Failure to change pace noticeably.HEEL FREE - 20 Points
Deductions as above in HEEL ON LEADSTAND FOR EXAMINATION - 30 Points
Deductions for rough treatment of dog, active resistance of dog, movement of dog's feet during the exercise, dog's moving away or sitting after judge completes exam. A dog that shows shyness, growls, snaps or that sits or moves away during the exercise shall be scored zero.RECALL - 30 Points
Deductions for slow response, change of position when left, touching handler on recall.A dog that does not stay where commanded, does not come on command and does not recall within reach of the handler shall be scored zero.
STAY EXERCISE - 30 Points
Deductions for moving minor distance, minor barking or whining, positioning of dog using hands, change of position upon handler's return.A dog shall be scored zero for moving a substantial distance, excessive barking or whining, bothering other dogs or for changing position during the stay.

TEMPERAMENT - 20 Points
DISQUALIFY: Aggressiveness, shyness, nervousnessGENERAL APPEARANCE - 20 Points
PENALIZE: Dark mahogany, pale yellow, poor coat, lack of strength, coarseness, fineness, poor topline, low withers, incorrect tail carriage, lack of chest, slab sides, incorrect angulation, incorrect tuck up, lack of balance.DISQUALIFY: Massive areas of white on chest, white anywhere on body, white extending above toes
HEAD & NECK - 20 Points
PENALIZE: Too wide or too narrow a head, too much or too little stop, excessive muzzle length, dewlap, snipeyness, houndy ears, incorrect bite, pendulous lips, yellow eyes, pop eyes, saggy eyelids, eyelids turned in, short neck, neck lacking muscle.DISQUALIFY: Black nose
RUNNING GEAR - 20 Points
PENALIZE: Lack of well-developed muscling, loose elbows, too wide or too narrow front, loose shoulders, weak pasterns, cow hocks, any movement indicating a lack of soundness, restricted reach, lack of grace, hare feet, sloppy feet, thin soft pads, dew claws.PASSING SCORE IS 60 POINTS OR BETTER
A DOG MUST SCORE AT LEAST 50% IN EACH CATEGORY.
